Music of India and Music of the Balkans Ensembles

UCLA Music of India Ensemble
world-music
Schoenberg Hall

The Music of India Ensemble and The Music of the Balkans Ensemble showcase traditional music from these regions on the same stage. Performances will include short compositions of North Indian classical and semi-classical ragas (harmonic modes) and talas (rhythmic patterns on tabla or drums) and Bulgarian traditional songs and music.

Students of Rahul Neuman will play the sitar (a long-necked lute with seven principal strings, plus 12 to 20 sympathetic strings) and the students of Abhiman Kaushal will perform on the tabla for The Music of India Ensemble. The Music of the Balkans Ensemble focuses on Bulgarian traditional and contemporary music with a wedding orchestra of modern instruments and two choirs that sing traditional songs with modern arrangements.
