Composer, conductor, writer and pianist Matthew Aucoin, LA Opera’s first ever Artist in Residence, comes to UCLA for a week-long residency with the students of Opera UCLA, culminating in a curated recital of Poetry and Music.  Opera UCLA students perform excerpts from Aucoin’s acclaimed opera Crossing, to texts of Walt Whitman; excerpts from his Merrill Songs, with texts by the renowned poet James Merrill; and songs by Samuel Barber and Jitka Kuželuhová to texts by Emily Dickinson. Aucoin and faculty coach Cheryl Lin Fielding perform for the singers.

Made possible by the David and Irmgard Dobrow Fund. Classical music was a passion of the Dobrows, who established a generous endowment at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music to make programs like this possible. We are proud to celebrate this program as part of the 2017-2018 Dobrow Series.
