CONGRATULATIONS FROM THE DEAN

Dear School of Music students, who have or are completing the BA, MA, MM, DMA or PhD degree, or a minor in Music History or Music Industry:

I am excited to invite you to attend the inaugural commencement ceremony of The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. This will be a wonderful celebration for you and your
families and friends. The ceremony will be held in North Dickson Court on Friday afternoon, June 16. Students will be asked to arrive by 3:30PM, wearing (or carrying) your cap and
gown (academic regalia) and our staff will prepare you for the graduating student procession that will start promptly at 4:15PM.

During the ceremony, each graduating student will be called individually to receive a certificate of merit to celebrate your membership in the inaugural class of the School.
In addition to recognizing your achievements and the founding of the School, Chancellor Gene Block will award the UCLA Medal, our campus’ highest honor, to Herb Alpert
for his transformative leadership in the arts and arts education that embodies and amplifies UCLA’s highest goals.

The ceremony will feature music from various sectors of our school and comments from two student speakers, one undergraduate student and one graduate student.
Immediately following the ceremony, I will host a celebration reception in South Dickson Court for you and your guests; faculty and staff will also attend.

If you are graduating this year and have not yet completed our commencement survey, please take a moment now. (CLICK HERE) This will help as we plan the ceremony
and produce the inaugural commencement program book.

I look forward to greeting you and your family and friends. You all have reached another milestone in your academic career; join me and the faculty in honoring you on June 16th.
Let’s celebrate big!
