Opera UCLA presents a new 90-minute version of Händel's Amadigi. Directed by UCLA alumnus James Darrah, this adaptation revolves around a powerful woman who risks everything to manipulate those around her. With music direction by Grammy Award-winner Stephen Stubbs and room design by media artist Refik Anadol, a lecturer and visiting researcher in UCLA's Department of Design and Media Arts.

Darrah's productions have been called "once-in-a-lifetime" experiences by Opera News. He has been recognized as “a gifted young American director" (Chicago Tribune) with an unconventional and varied body of work that "injects real drama" (New York Times) into new theater and opera productions as well as video and film installations.

Stubbs is one of the world’s most respected lutenists, conductors, and baroque opera specialists. He spent a 30-year career in Europe before returning to his native Seattle in 2006, where he was awarded the Mayor’s Arts Award for ‘Raising the Bar', in 2014.

Anadol's work explores the space among digital and physical entities by creating a hybrid relationship between architecture and media arts. His site-specific audio/visual performances have been seen in Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hammer Museum, International Digital Arts Biennial Montreal, Ars Electronica Festival (Austria), Istanbul Design Biennial, Sydney City Art (Australia), among others.

This production is made possible due to a generous donation from Tigertail Associates. In honor of Bob Uzgalis, Tigertail Associates is committed to integrating state-of-the-art technology to advance opera.
Additional support generously provided by the Alemannia Music Foundation, Inc.
