Masterclass with selected piano students by one of the most revered musicians of our time. Gilbert Kalish's legendary status defies description. His discography encompasses more than 100 recordings, including classical repertory, 20th-century masterworks and new compositions. These include his solo recordings of Charles Ives' Concord Sonata and sonatas of Joseph Haydn, vocal music with Jan DeGaetani and landmarks of the 20th century by composers such as Elliott Carter, George Crumb, Ralph Shapey and Arnold Schoenberg. His partnerships include his thirty-year collaboration with mezzo-soprano Jan DeGaetani, but also includes cellists Timothy Eddy and Joel Krosnick, and soprano Dawn Upshaw.

Made possible by the David and Irmgard Dobrow Fund. Classical music was a passion of the Dobrows, who established a generous endowment at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music to make programs like this possible. We are proud to celebrate this program as part of the 2017-2018 Dobrow Series.
